Hyperdawn is the moniker of Salford based experimentalists Michael Cutting and Vitalija Glovackyte. Off the back of their prolific individual projects, ranging from multimedia performances to studio releases, orchestral works to solo live sets, the duo has steadily developed a distinctive voice as Hyperdawn, forging modified keyboards, homemade instruments and reel to reel tape recorders.
Their debut album Bleach takes their physical, process-based aesthetic with imperfections of warped tape and faltering hardware and pushes it towards the boundaries of pop music. Hints of verse-chorus structures are now apparent with the use of Vitalija’s voice as an essential introduction, giving the duo’s rough-grained instrumentals a new level of poignancy.
Michael and Vitalija have taken their live show to venues and festivals across the UK, US, Canada and Europe as well as had their music broadcast on BBC Radio 3 (Late Junction), NTS Radio and Berlin Community Radio amongst others.
TNSrecords are very excited to welcome Incisions to the family. Their debut album will be released on the 7th December on CD, Vinyl and digital download. We also have new limited edition Incisions t-shirts available.
Manchester is the home of UK DIY punk. If someone tells you otherwise, they’re wrong. Manchester birthed Incisions in 2015 and they’ve been honing the sound since. This is what being young, working class punk in the North of England sounds like. They’ve combined love, lust, liquor and rage, dragging 80s American hardcore through the streets of Manchester.
Two years, two self-released albums and various UK and international live shows later, j.b. glazer returns to Them There for another round of mutant club hitters and abstracted dungeon blues. Following on from the blinding 2018 debut album ‘Compact Break’ - ‘Divine Glint Music’ captures glazer working to the utmost extremes of his practice, wrestling with themes of duality to give rise to some of his most realised and polished work to date.
Divine Glint Music represents a stirring experiment in new production techniques for j.b. glazer, initiated through the reconstruction of forgotten collaborative material and the use of turntables as a compositional tool. His natural flare for sample manipulation and drum programming are apparent throughout but ‘Divine Glint Music’ is set apart from previous works by a new sense of spontaneity and impulsiveness.
Recorded live in London 2020. Recreated using original recordings featuring Bianca Scout, Violence Grass Band, Elena Isolini, James Walker and Halfs.
James Blake's latest release since his last album in 2019, 'Friends That Break Your Heart'. This version is with a limited edition cover featuring a black and white image on the front with a blue border.
JEUCE are a big garage punk two-piece in a small pond and their debut album introJEUCEing is out with Sheffield DIY label, Delicious Clam on 29 th May 2020. Having supported acts such as Allison Wolfe of Bratmobile and Ian Svenonius’ Escape-ism, Jenn and Bruce have been in bands in the Sheffield and Manchester scenes for too long and as the Peer Hat house band, JEUCE have seen little to no success. And they like it that way, alright?
The sound is a mix between loud female vocals and Bossa Nova drums - think Kathleen Hanna fronting the Gories - and song themes range from haemorrhoids to eating from other people's plates in restaurants.
Their new song, "Hangover" eloquently describes the mental anguish after sinking a couple of pairs of pints. Lyrics such as "I can't escape / This prison I have made / Talking shit / They all think I'm a prick" are sure to delight families and the elderly in equal measure. So listen to JEUCE and be pleasantly surprised. The vinyl is an environmentally friendly 'eco mix' used from leftover colour pellets resembling an ocean blue colour, and each record comes with an A3 poster.
Manchester label Icecapades kicked off 2014 with a split cassette release courtesy of London’s Joey Fourr, and Denmark’s Eerie Glue. Two bedroom-producing-autodidacts, who armed with nothing more than a library of 808-style beats, and treacle-thick-gloopy guitars, have conspired to serve up a seven song release crammed with tight, lo-fi pop songs heavy on esotericism and melody.
Keen observers may recognise Joey Fourr as the moniker under which former-Tubelord frontman, Joe Prendergast has been doggedly toiling for the past 18 months or so, putting out a flurry of well regarded 'zines and E.Ps in the process. Joe is also one of the brains behind burgeoning London based label, and live promoters, Crumb Cabin. Responsible for recent, immaculately packaged releases from the likes of Radical Boy, and Los Cripis.
Less familiar to some may be the name Eerie Glue (aka Copenhagen resident Benjamin Eroğlu), with this cassette marking as it does his first release in the U.K. Responsible for two excellent digital only collections last year, the three tracks on his side of the tape provide a gratifying introduction to those tuning in. Alongside the elements that make up a typical lo-fi release, sits a real cultivated deftness in the manner that these tracks have been put together, both in terms of the rich melodic texture on offering, and his sparse, economical production manner.
For John Carpenter, who reunited on the new film with original Halloween star Jamie Lee Curtis, composing the score felt like a homecoming. Not only had he not worked on a Halloween movie in 35 years, he hadn’t composed a soundtrack since his 2001 sci-fi thriller Ghosts of Mars. “It was great,” Carpenter said of the experience. “It was transforming. It was not a movie I directed, so I had a lot of freedom in creating the score and getting into the director's head. I was proud to serve David Gordon Green’s vision.”
Jonathan Richman & The Modern Lovers - Jonathan Richman & The Modern Lovers
Born in Natick, Massachusetts, singer, songwriter, and guitarist Jonathan Richman began playing music and writing his own songs in the mid-60s. While in Boston, Richman formed the Modern Lovers, a proto-punk garage rock band. The album Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers was released in May 1976, three months before the earlier The Modern Lovers sessions were finally released known as their eponymous self-titled debut studio album.
Sigur Rós front man Jón Þór "Jónsi" Birgisson released his debut album Go in 2010. Jónsi initially though he would be making a low-key, acoustic album until, as he says, "somewhere along the line, it just sort of exploded." that explosion resulted in sheer aural fireworks, not a straight ahead pop record, nor rock, folk, ambient or electronic, it encompasses all of these to create an expansive musical palette that’s been brought to life by Jónsi alongside a number of free-spirited collaborators including the Philip Glass protégé Nico Muhly and the percussive genius of Samuli Kosminen.
Met with great critical acclaim Go has been long out of print and is repressed on exclusive transparent red vinyl and released on Sigur Rós own record label, Krunk.
Shiver is the exciting and beautiful second record from LA-based Icelandic musician Jónsi. Recorded in Berlin, Reykjavik, London and Suomenlinna and featuring tracks with Liz Fraser from Cocteau Twins and pop icon Robyn. Released on Sigur Rós’ own label Krunk.
Not too long ago Jónsi was traveling through London, where he met up with iconoclastic producer A.G. Cook, who he admired for his boundary-breaking work with the PC music collective. He had no expectation for the meeting, but the more they talked, the more he realized they might be perfect collaborators. “I’ve been doing this for 30 years,” Jónsi says. “I get tired of everything really easily. I always want things to be fun and exciting and fresh, and doing another album...I just wanted to have a different approach.”
Jónsi had made a career on sweeping music that plumbed the depths of the human experience and our connection to the natural world. Cook’s production exists at the opposite end of the spectrum: synthetic, sometimes abrasive, and often on the cutting edge of experimentalism. On paper, their collaboration is surprising, but Shiver is a beautiful record that pushes Jónsi’s otherworldly voice into startling new territories.
Kas Product - Black & Noir (Mutant Experimental Synth Punk From France 1980-83)
Soul Jazz Records are releasing a collection of lost recordings by French mutant experimental synth group Kas Product, all originally recorded in the period 1980 – 83.
Kas Product formed in 1980 in Nancy, France, as an electronic duo comprising ex-psychiatric nurse Spatsz on electronics and rhythm machines and Mona Soyoc on vocals and guitars.
Kas Product feature on Soul Jazz Records’ recent 'Punk 45 – Les Punks: The French Connection'. Mainly recorded on early tape, synth and drum machines Kas Product’s mixture of Spatsz’ hypnotic, electronic and angular hard-edged beats matched to the spiky vocals and guitar work of Soyoc led to comparisons with Suicide, Liliput/Kleenex, Cabaret Voltaire as well as to the group being forerunners of the cold wave/ synth wave movement. Perhaps closer still is the Industrial sound of bands such as Throbbing Gristle and Einsturzende Neubaten. At the start of the decade Kas Product's 'So Young But So Cold' was also the title track of a defining collection of rare underground electronic French coldwave/synthwave bands on the Tigersushi label.
Knife Club feature Zoë Barrow (Casual Nausea) and Andy Davies (Revenge Of The Psychotronic Man/TNSrecords) on vocals, Eliott Verity (Nosebleed) on guitar/vocals, Dan Flanagan (Haest/Matilda’s Scoundrels) on guitar, Dani Rascal (Faintest Idea) on bass/vocals and Chris ‘Big Hands’ Hinsley (Revenge of…) on drums.
The band formed after a drunken night in Hastings and have since been building up interest in a secretive fashion whilst also booking gigs at Rebellion Festival, Manchester Punk Festival and Wotsit Called Fest, alongside a series of club gigs in the UK and Denmark. They have also been negotiating the logistical nightmare of travelling hundreds of miles for band practises, a bitter North/South divide and justifying why they are together at random gigs in random places at random times.
Five tracks of bedroom produced, speaker-tickling, unhinged noise digressions, and layers of fuzz-punk blast are delivered with an ice-cold, laconic air. 'Destroys the Moon' will chime with those hipped to Moe's work with her other bands, Dog Legs & As Ondas, as well as those who had their ears pricked up by her only other previous release, the now long sold out, 'Saves Planet Earth' E.P.
One of the Founding Fathers of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Little Richard (born Richard Penniman) was one of the most influential entertainers in popular music history, best known for his over-the-top performances at the piano and his string of instantly recognizable hit songs, including Tutti Frutti, Good Golly Miss Molly and Lucille. Pressed on 180g heavyweight vinyl.
Former Things is the follow up to acclaimed 2015 album Hinterland which garnered praise from The Guardian, The Quietus, The Financial Times and more. The soundworld of Former Things was entirely crafted by LoneLady during her time spent in Somerset House Studios Rifle Range, an 18th century shooting range that has now been adapted into an experimental performance space. The album was inspired by a seismic move for LoneLady who left her native Manchester, decamping to London’s Somerset House Studios in search of a new cityscape to inspire her poised machine funk.
The debut physical release from Manchester-based upstarts Loose Articles. Pressed by Dipped In Gold Recordings, Up The Disco brings those sweaty nights at your favourite indie disco, straight to your home. B-side is titled Buses.
Lou Clarke spent most of the 70's not of this Earth, a greatly formative time for him and those around him. The intervening period was spent retrospectively constructing a back catalogue of music to rival even the most seasoned of 'straight to charity shop' vinyl ghosts.
The All-Scars are a collection of well-trodden troubadours from a variety of Mancunian haunts who've generously come together to present these songs in something close to their original form as once might have been heard.
The 'Greatest Hits' album is a preventative measure precluding necessary high standards for a second work. All of the tracks have been taken from the future back catalogue including the upcoming demand avoidant '4th Album'.
Madness - I Do Like To B-Side The A-Side Volume 2 (RSD21)
2020 saw the release of the critically acclaimed career spanning 25-disc box set 'Closed For Business'. Following on from this set is another treat for fans with more rarities released for Record Store Day 2021.This new 12" brings together tracks previously available across the formats for the bands 'Seven EP' release in 1997. The music on the EP reveals a transitional sound for the band, in which the club-crossover brit-pop style of their earliest work is left behind in favour of a more organic sound, one closer to progressive rock and post punk. It also features the first collaboration between the group and Magazine frontman Howard Devoto in 'Everyone Must Win'.
